This is part of a monthly comic series about urban planning in Lincoln Square, by artist Sarah Morton .
Sarah takes on the topic of Albany Park’s rain gardens. The area was particularly affected by flooding in April’s storms, and as Sarah writes and draws, rain gardens can help minimize the impact of such storms if there are enough of them around.
60625 is aware of a few other rain gardens sprinkled throughout Albany Park, but there won’t be a truly significant impact on storm water retention until they are more prevalent.
Here are some resources where you can learn how to install your own rain garden at your home or business:
- City of Chicago Rain Garden Brochure
- Chicago Rain Garden Network’s Facebook page
- Center for Neighborhood Technology
Thanks to Emma Carollo for providing an update on how the Albany Park Community Center’s rain garden weathered the storm.
