GRO holding food drive for Common Pantry this weekend

The Greater Rockwell Organization is once again teaming up with the Ravenswood Gardens Homeowners Association for a food drive January 18-21. The drive benefits Common Pantry , which serves the community, located at 3744 N Damen Ave.

The drop-off locations are:

An email from GRO this week reminds residents that it is easy to participate. Just pick up a few extra canned and boxed goods while you’re out shopping and drop off your donations. Drop-off times are now through 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 21. Place donated items in the plastic bin at any of the above locations.

Common Pantry’s most-needed non-perishable items include the following:

  • Cereal
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Boxed Dinners (Rice a Roni, Hamburger Helper)
  • Canned Tuna
  • Canned Fruit
  • Spaghetti/Tomato Sauce
  • Shampoo
  • Deodorant
  • Bar Soap
  • Diapers (Size 4-6)

Please note that the pantry also accepts donations of  pet food. GRO says that Common Pantry is Chicago’s oldest operating food pantry. They provide emergency food and personal items to more than 1,100 people each month.
