A new food pantry on Lawrence Ave has been ramping up its efforts to provide food and clothing to residents in need, to soon culminate in a grand opening and fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 12.
From 6-9 p.m., supporters may make a suggested $20 donation at the door and see Lincoln Square Friendship Center ‘s space at 2733 W Lawrence. Appetizers and drinks will be served and coordinators will be available to answer questions and inform attendees about upcoming projects and plans.
The pantry serves the following area: South of Peterson; North of Montrose; East of California; and West of Ravenswood. Friendship Center began distributing food within the last two weeks, serving 27 households and 98 individuals, according to their most recent report.

See below for a list of current needs and note that, in addition to donations always sought for the pantry’s shelves, Friendship Center is currently seeking bottles of wine for their grand opening. - Small fridge (dorm size)

- Any hand tools (hammers, screw drivers, etc.)
- Racks for clothing
Ongoing needs include:
- Seasonal clothing
- Canned meat (tuna, chicken)
- Powdered milk
- Canned fruit and vegetables (applesauce, green beans, corn, etc)
